If a major news event happened in the world, how would you access the news? For example, would you read a newspaper, or would you get the news from the Internet?

The news sources listed on the board can be divided into two different categories. What are they?

What are the similarities and differences between traditional and non-traditional news sources?

How might each of the underlined media sources be used to share news stories?

Vocaulary To Know Traditional News Sources: sometimes referred to as “old” or “mainstream” media; examples are newspaper, magazines, radio, television Media: the main means of mass communication. Social Media: websites and applications used for social networking and communicating informally with other users.

Blogs: Personal websites/webpages on which an individual records opinions on a regular basis. Blogosphere: personal websites on the internet are collectively referred to as the blogosphere. Citizen Reporter: reporters that work outside the mainstream media; no professional training but still operate under the same guidelines as traditional journalists.

Key Vocabulary Water Pump: a machine that pumps water out of a container Hollow: used to describe a container that is empty Top Rim: used to describe the top, circular shaped edge of a cup. Base: used to describe the bottom of a cup. Cup Wall: used to describe the side of a cup.
