Drafts 10 qualities Pictures Timeline Rubrics Storyboard 10 Design Qualities Product Focus Create the Logo Design and Layout for the Grandview Heights High School Bands CD-ROMS. The students will design two CD-ROMS. They will make the logos, set up the master, create the labels, and make the front and back inserts. This will be a collaborative effort between the Band, Computer Technology, and Art Students. The Band students will record and burn the CD-ROMS, the Computer Technology and Art students will design and create the master layout.

Drafts 10 qualities Pictures Timeline Rubrics Storyboard Clear/Compelling Product Standards Set Teacher and Student rubrics. Use the Band Director as the “customer” and find out what he wants (this will be incorporated into the rubric). Use samples from previous years to give students ideas. Look at the CD-ROMS created by professionals. Invite Guest speakers to talk about graphic design and desktop publishing.

Drafts 10 qualities Pictures Timeline Rubrics Storyboard Protection from adverse consequences Bring in the Art Teacher (Creative Director), the Band Director (Customer), and outside experts in design and desktop publishing to introduce the students to creating authentic products. Student’s logos will be critiqued by all the experts as they go through many drafts to narrow them down to the final logos. The Customer will have the final say as to which logos he would like to use.

Drafts 10 qualities Pictures Timeline Rubrics Storyboard Affirmation of Performance Publish and sell the final CD-ROM's to the community. Have the students design advertisement posters, fliers, and commercials (for the student run television station) to promote the CD-ROM's.

Drafts 10 qualities Pictures Timeline Rubrics Storyboard Affiliation Students will analyze the past CD-ROM's for the band that were created by actual professionals. Students will all create their own logos for the first drafts, then working with the Art Director and experts create another draft to improve on their original ideas. Eventually, the students will vote on the top 5 of each Logo (Jazz and All Band), and they will be put into groups to work on different variations of the final drafts.

Drafts 10 qualities Pictures Timeline Rubrics Storyboard Novelty and Variety Each logo that the student’s design for their first drafts are unique. The students can choose to use PhotoShop, Freehand, or a combination of applications to create their logos. They can incorporate pictures, clipart, and their own creations.

Drafts 10 qualities Pictures Timeline Rubrics Storyboard Choice Students will create their own logos for the first draft. They will set up Master Layouts for the logos. Eventually, as they narrow down the logos, the students will work in groups to create the final logos. Once the logos and Master Layouts are set up, students will be placed in pairs and each be in charge of two pages of one of the CD-ROM's.

Drafts 10 qualities Pictures Timeline Rubrics Storyboard Authenticity The Students are using their Desktop Publishing, Graphic Design, and Advertising/Communication Skills to publish and sell an actual product.

Drafts 10 qualities Pictures Timeline Rubrics Storyboard Organization of Knowledge This is an interdisciplinary project. The students are in the highest level of the Computer Technology Classes. They are already familiar with PhotoShop, Freehand, and PageMaker. They will review the software, then be introduced to design and layout concepts by the Arts department. After, the students will create interview questions and interview our “Customer.” From the customers answers, the students will create the logos, using the software and design principles as well. After the logos have been selected, the Master will be created from the selected logos. Lastly, students will be assigned to different jobs on the CD-ROM’s.

Drafts 10 qualities Pictures Timeline Rubrics Storyboard Content and Substance This is an authentic experience for the students. After learning how to produce different desktop publishing and graphic design pieces in the lower Computer Classes, this is an excellent culmination of their knowledge.
