to integrate Foothill students into the everyday life of host families in Halle an der Saale and into the classroom activities of host schools to provide them with a coherent intercultural experience, inspiring international understanding, promoting German language instruction and motivating personal friendship.

Minimum of two years of German Host a German student Take German while hosting Speak German while in Germany Spend ten days at our partner school, Johann- Gottfried-Herder-Gymnasium, in Halle Spend three weeks with a host family in Halle Note: Participation is based on student application, interview with Frau Fleming, and demand. German 3 and 4 students are given preference.

Give presentations on American life Attend homeroom with Frau Fleming every day Participate in all activities and excursions planned by our partners in Halle We will be in Halle from mid-June to mid-July 2015

While we are staying in Halle, our hosts will take us on several excursions We will take day trips as a group Our host families will take us on weekend sightseeing trips

After we left Halle, we spent 5-6 nights travelling in Northern Germany We explored the coastal regions from the North Sea to the Baltic We learned about German history and culture Think: Viking settlements, Hanseatic league, stunning architecture, seaside culture & beautiful sunsets And we will have fun bicycling around the jewel of the Baltic, the island of Hiddensee!

Round trip airfare from San Francisco to Bremen and returning from Berlin to San Francisco. 6 nights accommodations in centrally located 3 star hotels. Based on triple occupancy for students Two meals a day to include breakfast and dinner (travel portion only). Private deluxe air-conditioned motorcoach for all land transportation (travel portion only Bremen to Halle). Professional guides for all guided tours as shown in the program itinerary. Entrance fees as outlined in the program itinerary. Tips, taxes and gratuities. Travel, accident and baggage insurance. Liability insurance for the protection of schools, professors and participants. 25 – 29 participants: $3400 20 – 24 participants: $3600 15 – 19 participants: $3900 10 – 14 participants: $4400 Total cost will be offset by fundraising Matching stipend possible for some students Exchange rates and gas prices determine our costs

What now? Fill out the GAPP application Turn it in to Frau Fleming by Monday, September 16 Plan to meet October 7 for a major planning meeting At that time, we will decide who’s in charge of what! We’ll meet on the first Monday of every month after that for cultural training, travel pointers, fundraising, etc.
