What is the difference between a hurricane and a tornado? 1.Turn to a double page in your books. 2.Put a title at the top of each page. 3.Draw a sketch of a hurricane and a tornado in the centre of each page. 4.Then label your sketches with the statements on the following slides. Ready….

Is this a tornado or a hurricane? Draw a simple sketch of it on the correct page.

Now, for each pair of statements, decide which is a tornado, and which is a hurricane. Then write the statements around your sketches. They occur all over the world – even in the UK. They only occur just North and south of the Equator.

From space, they look like huge anti-clockwise spirals, which might be 1000 km across. They look like a funnel of spiralling air extending from the bottom of the clouds to the ground

It’s most distinguishing feature is that it looks like a twister. It’s most distinguishing feature is the calm eye at the centre.
