2 Information About Hurricane Mitch Hurricane Mitch formed on October 22, 1998, and dissipated on November 5,1998. The hurricane’s highest wind speed was 180 mph, and the lowest pressure was 905 Mb (millibars). Hurricane Mitch killed 11,000-16,000 people and caused about $8 billion worth of damage.

3 How did Hurricane Mitch form? There are two main reasons Hurricane Mitch formed. The first is that, that October was hotter than normal and the waters temperature almost reached 30°C. 4 Location Hurricane Mitch hit the eastern coast of Central America. It hit Nicaragua, Honduras, and the southern tip of Florida. But El Salvador, Guatemala, Belize, and other countries in that region also were affected by Hurricane Mitch.
