Animal Farm Ch. 4-6

Animal Farm – Ch. 4-6  Create a title for each chapter, as I did for Ch. 1-3.  Think about… what is the purpose of the whole chapter?  For example, Ch. 1 could be titled “The Speech”  Identify one big question for each: Ch. 4, 5, and 6.  Again, think BIG picture, not minor details.  New groups…  Look at your questions collectively. Choose 3 questions (1 from each chapter) from the group to pose to another group for your assigned chapter.  Switch questions, and answer!  I will put them on a slide for all to see.  Choose someone to share your answer, and prepare for discussion.

Chapter 4 Questions 1.(1 st Period): How was the animals’ preparation a key in helping them defeat Mr. Jones and his men? 2.(1 st Period): What led to the animals victory? What flaws do the humans have? 3.(1 st Period): What capabilities are shown by the animals’ victory at The Battle of the Cowshed?

Chapter 4 Questions 1.(8 th Period): Is it fair for animals to have military classes, or is it too human? 2.(8 th Period): How does giving out military decorations like the Animal First Class go against the concept of Animalism? 3.(8 th Period): Why did the animals give titles to Snowball and Boxer, even though a commandment says that all animals are equal?

Chapter 5 Questions 1.(1 st Period): How does Squealer attempt to rationalize Snowball’s expulsion to the other animals? Is it successful? 2.(1 st Period): What were some other conflicts that caused tension, which led to Snowball’s removal? 3.(1 st Period): How did Napoleon accomplish gaining complete control of the farm without objection?

Chapter 5 Questions 1.(8 th Period): Why did Napoleon feel he needed to expel Snowball? Would the other animals agree with the reasoning? Why or why not? 2.(8 th Period): Why does Napoleon decide to get rid of Snowball now, rather than earlier or later? 3.(8 th Period): What was the real reason for abolishing Snowball from the farm? Could it be more than not wanting the windmill?

Chapter 6 Questions 1.(1 st Period): Why does Napoleon have Squealer change the seven commandments? 2.(1 st Period): How do you think the other animals react to the pigs denying Old Major’s requests? 3.(1 st Period): What do you think Napoleon’s purpose for the windmill is? Is it really to help benefit the farm, or is he distracting the animals from something more?

Chapter 6 Questions 1.(8 th Period): Were the animals justified in their feelings towards Napoleon communicating with a human? Why or why not? 2.(8 th Period): How different are the lives of the animals under the leadership of Napoleon rather than Mr. Jones? 3.(8 th Period): Are the animals completely relying on the pigs to think for them? If so, why?
