3 What do I know about the Armada? The children made mind maps.

4 I displayed the questions we needed to find answers to: Who were Queen Elizabeth and King Philip? Why were England and Spain enemies? What was the Armada? What were the sequence of events of the voyage? How did the English / Spanish view their victory/defeat? What is the task? We discussed ways of answering our questions. The children had to organise themselves into groups of 4 and answer the first two questions. We discussed what they had found out

5 The Spanish Armada – You Decide The Spanish Armada-You decide.

6 I explained that they were going to be English captains and they were going to have to make decisions after listening to certain pieces of information. We mapped the voyage on the map. The children really enjoyed the activity and found out a lot of information about the sequence of events that July. It was also a great stimulus for the children’s further research using books and the internet,both in school and for homework. A classroom assistant recorded the group work and I used it later as part of my assessment of the children’s Collaborative skills for oracy.

9 The children decided to present their information by: A power point presentation - Power point Pirates A board game - Armada Monopoly A cartoon book - The Simpson’s Armada An interview - Oprah Back in Time Which is the best idea?

10 The children organised themselves into new groups. We then discussed the importance of planning each members role within the group so that everyone was clear about their task within the group. What resources would they need and where we could get them? Would they need to research anything for their task? Let’s do it!
