2. Summary In summary this novel is about a young girl and her family fighting to survive the Yellow Fever of 1793.

3.  Matilda and her mother live in their coffee shop. Matilda was having a normal life for a girl in 1793.

4.  One day Matilda’s mom felt very hot and sick, so they had a doctor come and look at her. He said she has Yellow Fever.

5.  Matilda was sent with her Grandfather to go away from her mother so she wouldn’t catch the fever.

6.  When leaving for the city, they were turned away and forced to survive on their own in the woods.

7.  The rest of the story is about Matilda’s experiences surviving the woods and Yellow fever.

8. Characters  Some of the characters are Matilda, Matilda’s mother, Matilda’s Grandfather, Eliza, Nathaniel, Mrs. Ogilvie and her two daughters, Mrs. Flag, and Matilda’s cat.
