Review 1.Jesus came into the region of the Sea of Galilee preaching the Gospel of the Kingdom. 2.He called the first of His disciples to follow Him. 3.Immediately following these events Jesus went to the local Synagogue in Capernaum on the Sabbath. 4.In the Capernaum synagogue Mark records Jesus teaching as well as His first recorded deliverance. 5.His authority was recognized in His teaching and in His power over demons.

Geographical Setting Capernaum A typical fishing village. Hometown of Peter’s and Andrew’s family. Jesus based much of His ministry out of Capernaum.

Synagogue A congregation of people who met together for worship, the study of their faith, & community. It would also reference a building in which they met.

Mark 1:29–34 (ESV) And immediately he left the synagogue and entered the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John. 30 Now Simon’s mother-in-law lay ill with a fever, and immediately they told him about her. 31 And he came and took her by the hand and lifted her up, and the fever left her, and she began to serve them. 32 That evening at sundown they brought to him all who were sick or oppressed by demons. 33 And the whole city was gathered together at the door. 34 And he healed many who were sick with various diseases, and cast out many demons. And he would not permit the demons to speak, because they knew him.
