Isaiah’s commission into ministry began with a lofty vision of the Lord Jesus Christ. - I saw the Lord (vs. 1) Crisis (verses 1-4)

a decisive point or situation. Crisis definition This was Isaiah’s definitive life experience. Everything is going to change - From this point on he will never be the same.

Some unusual creatures called SERAPHIM attended Isaiah’s encounter. Holy Burners or Flames

The Seraphim's Unusual Anatomy SIX WINGS Four wings were for reverence and worship - covering their faces and feet. Two wings for service – to fly around and do the Lord’s will.

John Piper “Worship is the FUEL and goal Missions. Missions begins and ends in worship. Where zeal for worship is weak, zeal for missions will be weak.”

kabad (kaw-bad'); or kabed (kaw- bade'); in a good sense (numerous, rich, honorable); to make weighty or heavy. Hebrew word for Glory

Isaiah’s sincere confession led to an immediate cleansing. Cleansing (verses 6, 7)

"Only fire can dwell with fire - take a piece of iron or steel and place it in the fire and it will absorb the heat and begin to glow with incandescent brightness."

Crisis Confession Cleansing Commission Consumption Isaiah 6:1-8

Only when Isaiah was cleansed did he hear the CALL of the Lord. Commission (verse 8)

Matthew 24:14 "This Gospel will be preached as a testimony… then the end will come."

Crisis Confession Cleansing Commission Consumption Isaiah 6:1-8

He had beheld the glory of the Lord - He had heard the Lord's Commission – His response --- Here am I send me! Isaiah was CONSUMED! Consumption (verse 8)

2 Corinthians 5:14 “For the love of Christ compels us, because we judge thus: that if One died for all, then all died; and He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again.”

Paul like Isaiah had encountered the love of Jesus, he had beheld His beauty, experienced His forgiveness - now he could not help himself - he had to give His life for the purpose of bringing glory to the Lord. Compels literally means “It leaves me no choice.”

John Stott “We do not speak for Christ because we do not so love His name that we cannot bear to see Him unacknowledged and unadored. If only our eyes were opened to see His glory, and if only we felt wounded by the shame of His public humiliation among men, we should not be able to remain silent. Rather we would echo the apostles’ words” ‘we cannot but speak of what we have seen and heard.”
