Jesus On Way to Jerusalem Jesus and his followers are on the way to Jerusalem. The disciples were amazed and his followers were afraid.

Five Predictions 1)We are going up to Jerusalem. 2)The Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and the scribes. 3)They will condemn him to death and deliver him over to the Gentiles. 4)The Gentile Romans will mock, spit, flog and kill him. 5)After three days, he will rise again!

James and John Their Request: Grant us to sit in the places of honor in your glory – one at your right and one at your left.

The Cup and the Baptism Jesus said: You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup I drink or to be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized?

The Meaning of the Cup and Baptism The cup and the baptism symbolize judgment and suffering.

James, John and Jesus James and John Respond: We Are Able! Jesus confirms: You will drink the cup that I drink and you will receive the baptism I am baptized with. Jesus tells them: These places of honor are not his to grant – those seats belong to whom it has been prepared.

Jesus Teaching on Servant Leadership 1)Do not be as the Gentile rulers that oppress their people. 2)Whoever wants to lead others with greatness must do so by serving those they lead. 3)Whoever wants to be first among others must first become a slave to all.

Marks of Christ’s Messiahship 1)Jesus the messiah did not come for others ‘to wait’ on him, he came ‘to wait’ on others. 2)My messiahship rests on the foundation of giving my life as the redeeming payment of your ransom - saving you from your sin and giving you eternal life
