Why Me? Job 3-30
2
Depression Job 3 What did Job think about his birthday? 3:1-3 After this, Job opened his mouth and cursed the day of his birth. He said: "May the day of my birth perish, and the night that said, ‘A boy is conceived!’ Who did he ask to curse the day he was born? v8 May those who curse days curse that day, those who are ready to rouse Leviathan. What did he say about his nursing? Why did I not perish at birth, and die as I came from the womb? Why were there knees to receive me and breasts that I might be nursed? v11-12

Suicidal Job 6 How did Job describe his misery? 6:2-3 If only my anguish could be weighed and all my misery be placed on the scales! It would surely outweigh the sand of the seas - no wonder my words have been impetuous, v2-3 How did he assess God’s role in his pain? 6:4 The arrows of the Almighty are in me, my spirit drinks in their poison; God’s terrors are marshalled against me,” v4 How pointless was Job’s life to him? 7:16 I despise my life; I would not live for ever. Let me alone; my days have no meaning.

It’s Unfair Job 9-10 Did Job believe he could talk to God? 9:14-16 How then can I dispute with Him? How can I find words to argue with Him? Though I were innocent, I could not answer Him; I could only plead with my Judge for mercy. Even if I summoned Him and He responded, I do not believe He would give me a hearing. What about the wicked and how they are treated 10:3 Does it please You to oppress me, to spurn the work of Your hands, while You smile on the schemes of the wicked?
5
Why did God watch over him in the first place? v12-13 You gave me life and showed me kindness, and in Your providence watched over my spirit. But this is what you concealed in Your heart, and I know that this was in your mind.
6
Mixed Up! Job 13-14 What did Job think about how God had handled his situation? 13:14-15 Why do I put myself in jeopardy and take my life in my hands? Though He slay me, yet will I hope in Him; I will surely defend my ways to His face. Indeed, this will turn out for my deliverance, for no godless man would dare come before him! v14-16. What does he say about being wrong? 13:23-24 How many wrongs and sins have I committed? Show me my offense and my sin. Why do you hide your face and consider me your enemy?
7
Attacked by God Job 16-17 What had God done to him? 16:7-8 Surely, O God, You have worn me out; You have devastated my entire household. You have bound me - and it has become a witness; my gauntness rises up and testifies against me. Why had God crushed him? 16:12-14 All was well with me, but He shattered me; He seized me by the neck and crushed me. He has made me His target; His archers surround me. Without pity, He pierces my kidneys and spills my gall on the ground. Again and again He bursts upon me; He rushes at me like a warrior.

Abandoned by All Job 19 What had God done to him? 19:8 He has blocked my way so that I cannot pass. v8 Where were his friends and family? 19:14 My kinsmen have gone away; my friends have forgotten me. How had his servants treated him? 19:15-16 My guests and my maidservants count me a stranger; they look upon me as an alien. I summon my servant, but he does not answer, though I beg him with my own mouth. How does he describe his health? 19:20 I am nothing but skin and bones; I have escaped by only the skin of my teeth.
9
What did he longing for?19:23-27 Oh, that my words were recorded, that they were written on a scroll, that they were inscribed with an iron tool on lead, or engraved in rock forever! I know that my redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand on the earth. And after my skin has been destroyed, yet in my flesh I will see God; I myself will see him with my own eyes — I, and not another. How my heart yearns within me!
10
Godly Views Job 21 How did he assess the prosperity of the wicked? 21:7-8 Why do the wicked live on, growing old and increasing in power? They see their children established around them, their offspring before their eyes. Their homes are safe and free from fear; the rod of God is not upon them. How come wicked people get away with despising God 21:14-15 Yet they say to God, ‘Leave us alone! We have no desire to know your ways. Who is the Almighty that we should serve him? What would we gain by praying to him?’
11
What does he say about God and prosperity? 21:16 But their prosperity is not in their own hands, so I stand aloof from the counsel of the wicked. What did he say about God and wisdom 21:22 Can anyone teach knowledge to God, since He judges even the highest?
12
Godly Fatalism Job 23-30 God doesn’t reveal Himself 23:8-9 But if I go to the east, He is not there; if I go to the west, I do not find Him. When He is at work in the north, I do not see Him; when He turns to the south, I catch no glimpse of Him. God knows what He is doing 23:10 But He knows the way that I take; when He has tested me, I shall come forth as gold. I have followed Him 23:11-12 My feet have closely followed His steps; I have kept to His way without turning aside. I have not departed from the commands of His lips; I have treasured the words of His mouth more than my daily bread.
13
God is supreme 24:13 But He stands alone, and who can oppose Him? He does whatever He pleases. He carries out his decree against me, and many such plans He still has in store. God is in control 24:21-24 They prey on the barren and childless woman, and to the widow show no kindness. But God drags away the mighty by his power; though they become established, they have no assurance of life. He may let them rest in a feeling of security, but his eyes are on their ways. For a little while they are exalted, and then they are gone; they are brought low and gathered up like all others; they are cut off like ears of corn.
14
The Wisdom of God 28:1-28 The Justice of God 27:1-23 The Power of God 26:5-14 The Providence of God 29:1-30:30
15
Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable His judgments, and His paths beyond tracing out! "Who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has been His counsellor?" "Who has ever given to God, that God should repay them?” Romans 11:33-35
