BY FAITH MOSES
3
Today’s sermon on God’s Hall of Fame will probably be the most relevant of all to American Christians.
4
Moses is an example of faith that led him to place His service to God above any earthly possessions.
5
Somewhere we came up with our own mixed up gospel that combines the American dream with the Lordship of Jesus.
6
Hebrews 11:23-29 “By faith Moses' parents hid him for three months after he was born, because they saw he was no ordinary child, and they were not afraid of the king's edict. By faith Moses,
7
when he had grown up, refused to be known as the son of Pharaoh's daughter. He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a short time.
8
He regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward. By faith he left Egypt, not fearing the king's anger; he
9
persevered because he saw him who is invisible. By faith he kept the Passover and the sprinkling of blood, so that the destroyer of the firstborn would not touch the firstborn of Israel.
10
By faith the people passed through the Red Sea as on dry land; but when the Egyptians tried to do so, they were drowned.”
11
Why didn’t the writer of Hebrews talk about the other miracles in the life of Moses?
12
They would NEVER have happened if Moses had not turned his back on all his worldly goods so he could place God first in his life.
13
The writer of Hebrews doesn’t just tell us WHAT Moses did; he also told us HOW he did it!
14
verse 27, “he endured as seeing Him who is invisible.” verse 26, “he looked to the reward.”
15
The option is clear for us.
16
We can ask God to fulfill His word in our life and let His Spirit have control so that He can bring victory in our lives or we can fulfill our own will and quench the Spirit’s working in our lives.
17
Today we are at the edge of the river that has kept many of you from trusting God with all your life.
18
HOW can we do this?
19
verse 27, “he endured as seeing Him who is invisible.” verse 26, “he looked to the reward.”
20
Many Christians today can’t submit the control of their life to God because they are so focused on what they would have to give up they don’t see what they would gain.
21
Are you one of them?
22
Here is a reality check for you today.
23
Isaiah 40:5-8: “Then the glory of the Lord will be revealed, and all people will see it. The Lord himself has promised this. A voice cries out, ‘Proclaim a message!’ ‘What message shall I proclaim?’ I ask.
24
‘Proclaim that all human beings are like grass; they last no longer than wild flowers. Grass withers and flowers fade when the Lord sends the wind blowing over them. People are no
25
more enduring than grass. Yes, grass withers and flowers fade, but the word of our God endures forever.’”
