The father looked with pride upon his seven fine sons. Jesse had beseeched Jehovah for his boys’ future many times, asking Him to grant health and prosperity to his progeny. Yet never in his wildest dreams did Jesse expect that the Lord would choose one of his sons as the future king of Israel!
10
“Surely the prophet will anoint Eliab,” thought Jesse as his tall son stepped forward. But a frown formed on Samuel’s face as he shook his head. Abindab was next and then Shammah, but each young man was dismissed with a wave of the prophet’s hand.
11
Jesse felt his stomach tighten as his next four sons were presented only to be rejected by the perplexed prophet. “Have you no more sons?” Samuel asked. “The Lord has not chosen any of these.”
12
Immediately Jesse’s thoughts went to his youngest son David, who was in the shepherds’ fields outside of Bethlehem tending the family flocks. Surely the Lord did not intend for David to be king! Family Life Resource Bible

Abraham was old, Jacob was insecure, Leah was unattractive, Joseph was abused, Moses stuttered, Gideon was poor, Samson was codependent, Rahab was immoral, David had an affair and all kinds of family problems, Elijah was suicidal, Jeremiah was depressed… Rick Warren – Purpose Driven Life

I Samuel 16:6-7 Samuel saw Eliab and thought, “Surely the Lord’s anointed stands here before the Lord.” But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him.
18
The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

One of the sweetest reasons God saved you is because he is fond of you. He likes having you around. He thinks you are the best thing to come down the pike in quite a while…If God had a refrigerator, your picture would be on it.
20
If he had a wallet, your photo would be in it…He can live anywhere in the universe, and he chose your heart. Face it, friend. He’s crazy about you! Max Lucado – A Gentle Thunder
