In Roe v. Wade, Supreme Court built on precedent of Griswold and Eisenstadt to rule that laws banning abortion violated individuals' privacy rights In Roe, Supreme Court ruled that a fetus was not a "person" possessing constitutional rights until it reached viability (the advanced stage of pregnancy when it could live outside the womb). Roe allowed governments to regulate or prohibit abortions of fetuses that had reached viability, but banned such regulations on abortions in the first trimester

A more conservative Supreme Court since the 1980s has added many limitations to the abortion rights established in Roe v. Wade http://www.shmoop.com/right-to-privacy/roe-v-wade.html

What Does The Bible Say About The unborn?

As for Ephraim, their glory shall fly away like a bird - no birth, no pregnancy, and no conception! Though they bring up their children, yet I will bereave them to the last man. Yes, woe to them when I depart from them! Hosea 9:11-12

As for Ephraim, their glory shall fly away like a bird - no birth, no pregnancy, and no conception! Though they bring up their children, yet I will bereave them to the last man. Yes, woe to them when I depart from them! Hosea 9:11-12 Hosea is not addressing the practice of abortion in this text, but he uses five words, all related to one another, that pertain to the subject. He mentions "children" and "man" after referring to three events that are directly connected with them: conception, pregnancy, and birth.

As for Ephraim, their glory shall fly away like a bird - no birth, no pregnancy, and no conception! Though they bring up their children, yet I will bereave them to the last man. Yes, woe to them when I depart from them! Hosea 9:11-12 These three events, all being mentioned together in the same context with children and men, must be equally related to one another and have a bearing upon the answer to the question, "is the fetus a human being and when does it become such?"

Hosea 9:11-12 Now the time had come for Elizabeth to give birth, and she gave birth to a son (Lk. 1:57). Then the king of Egypt spoke to the Hebrew midwives, one of whom was named Shiphrah and the other was named Puah; and he said, "When you are helping the Hebrew women to give birth and see them upon the birthstool, if it is a son, then you shall put him to death; but if it is a daughter, then she shall live" (Ex. 1:15-16).

As for Ephraim, their glory shall fly away like a bird - no birth, no pregnancy, and no conception! Though they bring up their children, yet I will bereave them to the last man. Yes, woe to them when I depart from them! Hosea 9:11-12 For behold, when the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby leaped in my womb for joy (Lk. 1:44). But the children struggled together within her; and she said, "If it is so, why then am I this way?" So she went to inquire of the LORD (Gen. 25:22).

As for Ephraim, their glory shall fly away like a bird - no birth, no pregnancy, and no conception! Though they bring up their children, yet I will bereave them to the last man. Yes, woe to them when I depart from them! Hosea 9:11-12 Or like a miscarriage which is discarded, I would not be, As infants that never saw light. Job 3:16 If men struggle with each other and strike a woman with child so that she gives birth prematurely, Ex. 21:22

As for Ephraim, their glory shall fly away like a bird - no birth, no pregnancy, and no conception! Though they bring up their children, yet I will bereave them to the last man. Yes, woe to them when I depart from them! Hosea 9:11-12 And behold, even your relative Elizabeth has also conceived a son in her old age; and she who was called barren is now in her sixth month (Lk. 1:36). He went in to Hagar, and she conceived ; and when she saw that she had conceived, her mistress was despised in her sight …The angel of the LORD said to her further, “Behold, you are with child, and you will bear a son ; (Gen. 16:4, 11).
