Story In The Rocks By: Evan Leupen, Zack Bernard, Miranda Chandler

Rock Cycle The rock cycle is the formation, breakdown, and changing of a rock as a result of sedimentary, igneous, and metamorphic processes The rock cycle is how rocks change there formation into different types of rocks by going through the processes of weathering and erosion, compaction and cementation, and heat and pressure

Rock Types The three types of rocks are metamorphic, sedimentary, and igneous Igneous rocks are formed by the hardening of lava Metamorphic rocks are formed by when a rock morphs into another type by heat and pressure Sedimentary rocks are rocks formed from the deposition of sediment

Weathering Weathering is the various mechanical and chemical process that causes exposed rock to decompose Weathering is closely related to erosion because they both pertain to having the decomposition of sediments

Erosion Erosion is the process in which the surface of the earth is worn away by the action of water, wind, glaciers, and waves After erosion the rocks are broken down into sediments and can be formed into new rocks

Time Scale The geologic time scale is an estimated made by Authur Holmes, he estimated that the earth is about 4 billion years old. The standard method used to divide earths long natural history

Fossils Fossils are any remains, impression or trace of a living thing from the geologic age Most fossils form through the process of fossilization in sedimentary rocks Some sediment rocks contain multiple parts of different fossils cemented together

Superposition The law of superposition is that the newer the rocks are they are closer to the top and that the older the rock is the deeper it is Superposition is a foundational principle of sedimentary geology and is the geology of dependent natural sciences
