PreK – 6 Academic Pillar PreK Discussion Points to Date: Reinstating one campus Step Up To Quality rating Licensure components/Compliance Growth of Program to include any student who wants to attend Safety Parent Involvement/Home Visits Engagement in Schools Scheduling – 4 vs. 5 days Placement for Services Transition – PreK/K class, Kindergarten +1 Partnering with Community-based Programs/Services 3-5 year plan for additional funding Connecting to Kindergarten experience Academic Growth and Measuring Readiness for School-Age experience Elementary Discussion Points to Date: Collaborative activities utilizing technology and bussing Shared experiences for all students – ie: all grade 6 students go on same field experience Attracting high quality, highly engaging, highly motivated staff that understand the reward is the challenge in the most professional sense. Technology experience in elementary – overhaul, use of tablets/handhelds, need for new Proactive education that takes students out of traditional classroom setting Use of specials – how can we improve the experience and offerings? Change the way we use the library – ie: need to have students have research opportunities, allow teachers to do projects, update overall library experience Need for computer classes, including typing at younger grades Foreign Language for students – Latin Resource allocation related to textbooks – reality of technology in industry vs. preference and access to texts Reinstate textbook adoption cycle January 22, 2014

What would one campus look like? Benefits of having one campus? Latin classes in the elementary grades Elementary experience needs to connect with students and families Advantages of using online textbooks would be? Dis-advantages of using online textbooks would be? January 22, 2014 Pros of preschool classrooms being housed in one building. Transportation is easier Placement of students is not an issue Working with parents Pick up and drop offs are easier Bigger play area - playground More room for equipment Centralized location of services Itinerants in the same location is a positive and also same with special services

Big playground area Access Hosting family functions is hard Security is an issue with families coming in and out Dividing of siblings SUTQ all sites would be a different license Transition to kindergarten classrooms Building logistics Staff meeting times don’t pertain to prek staff K-6 things don't pertain to preschool

Create a survey to find out the public opinion of an Art Academy. What would be the pros and cons? Partnering with area businesses Community involvement What do we need to offer now? What will the Arts Academy look like in the future? January 22, 2014 Thoughts on prek-k, transitional K Student appears ready at the beginning of the year, but not ready at the end of the year. How can we do a better job of improving our services? How can we better advertise? How can we engage families? Resource Allocation Conversation of 4 vs. 5 days a week What does this look like? 3 hour days is more time on task PD on Fridays, SUTQ hrs. 4 days would leave Friday for parent conferences RCAAS Points to Ponder

Transportation for all preschool as ideal would look like? Pick up and drop offs at day care centers

Process by which a student selects a STEM Major 2. Then Senior Internship 3. Global Experience Through all grades we need critical thinking skills. Where are we lacking? Do we need to look at the Guidance Office? Revamp how we use our counselors in the middle school and high school? What is relevant and meaningful? Electives could be a route to change. What do we hope to achieve with STEM? Define Cracking the nut of SCS…….get every student thinking about college/CT. Community aspirations for higher education. January 22, 2014
