The United States Distance Learning Association was the first nonprofit Distance Learning association in the United States to support Distance Learning research, development and praxis across the complete arena of education, training and communications. In 1987, the USDLA was founded on the premise of creating a powerful alliance to meet the burgeoning education and training needs of learning communities via new concepts of the fusion of communication technologies with learning in broad multidiscipline applications. An elected president, an Executive Committee, and a governing board now govern USDLA with Dr. John G. Flores as the Executive Director of the Association. The learning communities that USDLA addresses are: pre K-12, higher education, continuing education, corporate training, military and government training, home schooling and telemedicine. In addition USDLA is also focused on national and international technology based Distance Learning. 5FDLA/USDLA Presentation for FETC 2010

Board members working to establish monthly seminars over compressed video to reach members throughout the state. Annual Conference of USDLA offers many opportunities. 33FDLA/USDLA Presentation for FETC 2010
34
Connecting with Sponsors By working with our sponsors, especially Polycom and Tandberg, you can gain insight into the use of new technologies – especially compressed video. With our friends, like Elluminate, you can get a free account to host online conference calls – with video if you wish. Through organizational contacts, you can work directly with vendors on projects. 34FDLA/USDLA Presentation for FETC 2010
35
Other Opportunities By volunteering to serve on the FDLA Board, running for one of the FDLA offices, or chairing or serving on one of FDLA’s committees, you will meet other distance educators and develop your leadership skills while contributing to your profession. An award program is being developed and you could help develop or run it or submit entries and nominations once it is announced. You could offer to help start an affiliate in your part of the state (or country) so FDLA can offer training in your area. 35FDLA/USDLA Presentation for FETC 2010
