Reading Build Comprehension, vocabulary, fluency and a love of reading! Accelerated Reader (Point goals set each quarter) Encourage your child to read at home. It builds their vocabulary! Harcourt series, challenging literature sets, various nonfiction materials.

Agendas Filled out by student daily Lists daily assignments, homework, and important upcoming events Signatures may be required for tests, reviews and special projects

HomeworkPolicy Homework Policy Due at time assigned Students are responsible for completing work to their best ability Late homework will result in loss of privileges. Students may not call home for homework, lunch or instruments. It is not parents’ responsibility to deliver such items. Assigned projects should be completed by the student.

Students will reflect on: Missing or late work Being unprepared for class Inappropriate behavior Lack of participation or being inattentive Not following directions Three reflections will result in a Shumway low-level communication slip. Nobody has the right to interfere with the learning, safety, or well-being of another student.

Make-Up Work Students have one additional day, for each day missed, to complete missing assignments due to illnesses. It is the student’s responsibility to get any missed work.

Dress Code Girls tank tops need to measure at least 2” Shorts need to be a modest length No hats in the buildings A shirt must be worn under sleeveless jerseys No droopy drawers Make up is not allowed! Cell phones must be turned off and in backpacks.

ATTENDANCE AND TARDINESS School attendance is a baseline factor in determining student success. These students generally: 1. Get better grades 2. Have improved behavior 3. Are more successful in junior high and high school 4. Are more likely to go to college 5. Hold higher paying jobs as adults

Field Trips Budget cutbacks… Consider donating for the Tax Credit and designate it to the Sixth Grade. $400 limit Field trips are based on funding and will be announced as they are coordinated.

General Information School Hours: 8:10 AM - 2:40 PM Office Hours: 7:30 AM - 4:30 PM Early Dismissal time is 11:10 AM. Students are allowed on campus at 7:50 AM. Please do not allow your child on campus before this time, as there is no supervision. Tardy Bell rings at 8:05 Tax credit forms are in the office. We need Art Masterpiece Volunteers and Ceramics Volunteers for each 6 th grade class.
