2. Captain Cook was born on October 27 and was a British Explorer who represented the English Royal Navy.

5. On his second expedition he sailed to Cape Town, South Africa and on to the Bouvet Island, near Antarctica.

7. James Cook arrived at Cape Town, South Africa on October 18, 1776, and sailed to New Zealand.

8. While heading for Alaska, Cook sailed to and named the Christmas and Sandwich Islands.
