Topic sentence: Tell the reader what your paragraph is trying to explain or prove.
Introducing quotation: Put the quote into context by explaining who says it, and/or when it happens, etc. Don’t just ‘Leave it Hanging’ on the paper.
Quotation: Write out the quotation you are using.
Analyze: Explain to the reader the importance of the quotation and how it supports your topic sentence. Don’t say “this quotation shows” or similar phrases

Topic sentence: In Night by Elie Wiesel, the narrator transforms from a very devout, religious boy to a young man who has lost his faith completely.
Introduce quotation: As Elie remembers the horrifying deaths of children he saw at the entrance to Auschwitz, his anger and despair cause him to write,
Quotation: “Never shall I forget that sight which murdered my faith and my God forever” (70).
Analyze: Elie cannot believe in or respect a God who would let such a terrible crime happen. He feels as though his faith and his image of God have been murdered and burned just like the poor children in the ditch.
