ADJECTIVES Indiana Standards 4.5.5 & 4.6.3

Adjectives An Adjective is a word that describes a noun or pronoun. Adjectives answer these 3 questions: What kind? How many? Which one? They can describe color, shape, size, sound, taste, touch, smell, or can be a number.

Article Adjectives Another kind of adjective is call an Article Adjective. A, An, The are called articles. A is used when a word begins with a consonant. A kangaroo hopped quickly around the zoo. An is used then the word begins with a vowel. An animal that hops is a kangaroo.

Proper Adjectives Proper adjectives are formed from proper nouns. Japan, Mexico, and India are proper nouns. Japanese, Mexican, and Indian are proper adjectives because they describe a person and are a name.

Adjectives: Practice Write the adjective and articles in each sentence. 1. The family lived on a big ship. 2. The ship was called the John Ena. 3. They kept chickens and a noisy rooster. 4. The John Ena sailed to many parts of the world. 5. It was an interesting place to grow up.
