Remember the rule concerning the use of ‘a’ and ‘an’ before words starting with vowels. I am __ avid, eager, enthusiastic sports fan. My friend’s boat capsized in ___ maelstrom. Of all the parts of speech, remember: Your vocabulary words will NOT include: Conjunctions— (and, but, for) Pronouns– (I, you, he, she, it, we, they, me, him, her, it, us, them, etc.) Prepositions-- into, under, through, inside, etc. Interjections– Gee!, Huh?, Ugh!, Wow!, etc. or Articles -- a, an, the Focus your attention on Nouns, Verbs, & Adjectives. Learn these helpful endings (suffixes): *Many Nouns end in –tion, -sion, --er, --ir, -ian, --ia, --ness, -ance, -ence, --ist, --y, and –ity. *Many Adjectives end in –ous, -able, -- ible, -al, -ive, -ient, -ent, -ic, -less, --ful, and –ish. *Many Verbs end in –ate, --ize, --en, --ify. *Many Adverbs end in –ly.
