It can be difficult to spell these words when you hear the same sound in the final unaccented syllable. /Ər/ The final sound in all of these words is the same, but there are four different spelling choices.

A syllable is a segment of speech said with a single impulse of air-pressure from the lungs.
To find the syllables hold your hand under your chin and you will notice that your chin drops for every syllable. Every syllable has a vowel sound

Accent = to pronounce with stress
Un = not Accent = to pronounce with stress When we put them together = not stressed The first syllables are stressed and the final are unstressed.

We need to change some of the words this week. In Australia, we use –our for rumour, colour, favour, flavour and harbour. Put one line through the –or and write our spelling choice above. You will also need to create a header for –our as there isn’t one provided.
