4 Chart Verbiage 1. Closed syllable- A vowel in a closed syllable is short, code it with a breve. 2. Open syllable- A vowel in an open, unaccented syllable is long, code it with a macron. Open unaccented syllable- a in an open, unaccented syllable says (u) code it with a tittle. i says (i) code it with a breve e, o, and u are half long, code them with a modified macron.

5 Verbiage continued 3. Vowel team- underline digraphs and arc diphthongs 4. Vowel consonant e- The vowel will be long, code it with a macron, the e will be silent, cross it out. 5. Final, Stable Syllable- Bracket the final, stable syllable. Accent the syllable before it. 6. R controlled syllable- Arc the vowel r combination.
