9 in 10 Americans see discrimination against one or more groups in society as a serious problem. 6 in 10 say that they have personally experienced unequal treatment based on race, ethnicity, economic status, gender, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, or accent. 71% percent of Americans believe that trying new ways of doing things is more important than maintaining tradition. 75% of Americans think unequal treatment that disadvantages the poor is a problem. 4 in 10 express that they have personally been discriminated against based on economic status. 2014 marks a high point for acknowledging the structural causes of poverty. 2 out of 3 Americans would be willing to take action to reduce poverty and encourage equal opportunity.
