The Mazurka is a Polish folk dance in triple meter, usually at a lively tempo, and with an accent on the second or third beat.

Origin In Polish, this musical form is called "mazurek"— a word derived from "mazur," which up to the nineteenth century denoted an inhabitant of Poland's Mazovia region, and which also became the root for „Masuria”. The mazurka played the greatest role during the III Partition of Poland, when it became the symbol of the Polish national identity.

Dress up The Mazurka was danced mainly by the gentry.

Figures Hundreds of steps are worked out by the different number of dancing pairs. That is why this dance is one of the most difficult ones.

Types of the mazurkas an uhlans – it is being danced in uniforms. a gentleman – it is being danced in the dress of a gentlemen.
