1. Cesar Estevez Chavez =

2. BIRTH Cesar was born on March 31, 1927. He was born in San Luis, Arizona. His family has lived there since his grandfather migrated from Mexico.

3. Early Childhood Cesar grew up on his family farm. He also spent time in the store his family owned. However, they lost the farm when he was 10. Bye-bye Farm 

4. A Little Later… Cesar worked with his family harvesting fields, while moving from farm to farm. After 8 th grade, Cesar started working full time to support his father who was injured in a car crash. AHHHHHHHHH!!! DADDY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5. Early Adulthood Chavez was in the Navy during WWII. When he returned, he did what he knows best. He worked on a farm in California.

6. Marriage Soon after returning from the war, Cesar married Helen Fabela. They had 8 children. They also had 31 grandchildren

7. His career Chavez then joined a group called the National Farm Workers Association. They fought many violent battles. All of them against grape growers.

8. Later in his Crusade Chavez was jailed during the struggle. Grape agreements were finally made. So he boycotted lettuce

9. More Grapes After lettuce, Cesar went back to a five year grape boycott. People did not buy California grapes until safe working conditions were made.(1968)

10. Towards the End In 1978, some worker demands were met. The boycotts were finally lifted.

11. Hundreds of farmers lived by his motto. “Yes, it can be done” An it proved true.

12. His work for fair conditions for farmers changed the lives of millions for the better.

13. In 1993, Chavez died of natural causes at age 66. However, farm workers all over the united states still had safe working conditioins.

14. Chavez was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom. This event took place in 1994, unfortunately after his death.

15. Today The UFW and Cesar’s children and grandchildren still fight for social justice.
