2  Medusa used to be a mortal woman.  She was turned into a dragon like monster with snake hair.  Medusa was so ugly anybody who looked at her turned to stone.

3  Scylla is a sea monster.  Lived on one side of a narrow river.  It had 6 necks and 12 feet.  Each of its heads had three sets of teeth.  It killed anyone who passed it.  6 of Odysseus’s men were killed by Scylla

4  Lived on the other side of the narrow river.  He was a giant whirlpool.  Anything that passed it got sucked up.  Odysseus sailed between these monsters  Odysseus got past Charibdis

5  He had the body of a man and the head of a bull.  King Minos hired Deadalus an inventor to build a labyrinth for the Minotaur.  The Minotaur was fed human victims.  Adriane told Theseus to come and kill the Minotaur.  Adriane fell in love with Theseus.

6  Strange giants  The Cyclopes had one huge eye in the middle of their head.  They were sent to live in the Underworld by their brother, Cronus.  Then Cronus had a son named Zeus who released all the cyclopes.  In return for their freedom they gave Zeus lightning bolts that he used to overthrow Cronus.

7  The Chimera had the head of a lion.  The tail of a dragon.  And the body of a goat.  It can breathe fire  The Chimera was killed by Bellerophon.

8  The sirens are sea goddesses that have the body of a bird and the head of a woman.  The sirens are the daughter of Phorcys the sea god.  The sirens would lure sailors to their island with their beautiful songs.  When the sailors got close to the island they would kill the sailors.  Odysseus put wax in his crews ears when they passed the island where the sirens were.  He didn’t put wax in his ears but he told his men to tie him to the mast.  Odysseus was the only man who heard the song and lived.

9  Cerberus had 3 heads.  He had a dragon tail.  Cerberus guarded the entrance to the underworld.  He let people in but he didn’t let anybody out.

10  Circe was a sorceress.  She lived on the island of Aeaea.  She used potions to turn humans into monsters.  The monsters still had their human brains.

11  The Hydra had 9 heads and poisonous breath.  It lived in swamps.  It ate cattle and crops ruining the land.  It was very hard to kill because when one head was sliced off two more would grow in its place.  The Hydra was killed by Hercules because each time Hercules cut off one head he would burn the place where the new heads would grow.

12  Unusual monsters with 50 heads and 100 arms  Created by Cronus and Gaia  Brothers to the titans  Imprisoned in the Underworld by Cronus.  When Zeus beat Cronus they were released.  They helped defeat the titans.

13  Arachne was a little girl.  A great weaver  Challenged Athena to a weaving contest  Arachne’s weaving was much more beautiful than Athena’s.  Athena became very mad and ripped Arachne’s cloth to pieces.  Arachne became sad and was about to hang herself but just before the rope killed her Athena felt sorry for her and changed her into a spider.

14  Zeus’ symbol is lightning bolts  He is the god of the sky.  He sits next to Hera and Poseidon

15  Poseidon is the god of the sea and horses.  His symbol is the trident.  He sits next to Zeus

16  Athena is the god of wisdom and war for just causes.  Her symbols are the Medusa breastplate, owls, and war gear.  She sits next to Poseidon.

17  Apollo is the god of light, music, reason, and mice.  His symbol is the lyre.  He sits next to Athena.

18  Artemis was the god of the hunt.  Her symbols were a bow and arrow and the crescent moon.

19  Dionysus was the god of wine and merriment.  His symbols are grape vines.  He sits next to Artemis.

20  Hera is the queen of Olympus she also is the marriage queen.  Her symbols are a peacock and her crown.

21  Ares is the god of war.  His symbol is war gear.  He sits next to Aphrodite.

22  Aphrodite is the god of love and beauty.  Her symbols are the dove and the rose.  She sits next to Hephaestus.

23  Hephaestus is the god of smiths and fire.  His symbols are a big hammer or anvil.  He sits next to Hermes.

24  Hermes is the god of thieves and the messenger of the gods.  His symbols are the winged cap, winged sandals.  He sits next to Demeter.

25  Demeter is the goddess of the harvest.  Her symbols are wheat and Persephone.  Persephone sits on her lap.

26  Persephone is the goddess of spring.  Her symbol is pomegranates  She sits on Demeter’s lap.

27  Hades is the lord of the dead.  His symbols are black chariots, cap of invisibility, and black horses.  He doesn’t have a throne in Olympus.

28  Hestia is the god of the hearth.  Her symbols are the hearth.  She has no throne she tends the sacred fire in the hall.
