KEFA Coating Presentation to New York City Transit 2 Broadway January 25, 2007 Robbie Wood and Regis Doucette 201.664.5487
2
KEFA Coating We create dry surfaces We improve the indoor climate Micro porous coatings
3
KEFA Pedigree On the market for over 30 years Product applied over 400,000,000 sq ft In over 40 countries First application 1975 - Still working Products are based on 3 patents Developed in co-operation with Swedish, US, UK Universities
4
What is a KEFA Coating ? A microporous coating Water based Harmless to health Harmless to environment It works forever It works automatically/passively Not a 1-use like intumescents
5
Some KEFA Benefits KEFA – Condensation Protection KEFA – Mold Protection KEFA – Facade Paint KEFA – Heat Protection ALL NATURAL NON-CHEMICAL
6
KEFA Coating x 500
7
Microporous structure provides interesting properties Condensation protection Improves rust protection + detects corrosion Mold remediation Insulates Dries out fresh construction Improves insulation Does not attract dust and dirt Noise damping
8
KEFA Coatings Speed up evaporation
9
Dew point with dry periods between condensation periods KEFA Coating requires a cyclic condensation process

14
KEFA Coatings Adsorption/evaporation capacity
15
Metal KEFA Coating Surface temperature over dew point No condensation, No corrosion
16
KEFA Coating Metal Surface temperature at dew point Condensation forms on surface Corrosive stage No condensation on KEFA Coating
17
KEFA Coating Metal Surface temperature under dew point Condensation water dripping from metal The drop is more corrosive than the film.
18
KEFA Coating Metal Surface temperature under dew point Condensation forms also between metal and KEFA Coating. Condensation water is absorbed and spread evenly in the coat. No corrosive drops
19
KEFA Coating Metal Surface temperature over dew point
20
KEFA Coating Metal Surface temperature over dew pooint Dripping stops. Water film still corrosive KEFA Coating surface dries considerably faster than metal surface. No corrosion
21
KEFA Coating Metal An air stream speeds up evaporation
22
KEFA Coating Metal An air stream speeds up evaporation KEFA Coating dries very fast
23
Condensation on Concrete Differs from condensation process of metal Concrete is a poor heat conductor
24
Concrete KEFA Coating Concrete temperature at air temperature Day. High temperature No condensation
25
Concrete KEFA Coating Evening. Air temperature sinks No condensation Concrete temperature over air temperature
26
Concrete KEFA Coating Concrete temperature over air temperature Night. Air temperature sinks further No condensation
27
Concrete KEFA Coating Morning. Air temperature rises Condensation forms on concrete Condensation forms between concrete and GT Concrete temperature below air temperature
28
Concrete KEFA Coating Concrete temperature under air temperature Condensation water absorbed by KEFA Coating Late morning. Air temperature rises
29
Concrete KEFA Coating Concrete temperature at air temperature Condensation water evaporates KEFA Coating surface dries out rapidly Noon. Air temperature rises further

The MP structure provides interesting properties Condensation protection Improves Rust Protection. Detects corrosion Mold Remediation Dries out construction Improves insulation Insulates Does not attract dust and dirt Noise damping
38
Why avoid mold? Mold looks bad and creates smell Mold is an early step in the degradation process Mold can produce mycotoxins Dangerous to your health
39
Conditions for growth of mold and other organisms Presence of spores Average over the year >3 000/sqft air Nutrition = all organic material Construction material, dust, dirt, pollen Free water Condensation, construction water, leakage water Time and temperature

What Kefa Does Not Do
45
Kefa Also Does Not Cost extra money over time Require extra coats of coating every year And we do not work as designed if Kefa is top coated by any other coating that would bury our special coating underneath, thereby defeating the purpose of preventing condensation from humid air There are no natural or induced cycles of drying in the environment (e.g. HVAC)
46
Cycle Is Important !!!
47
Why Kefa -- ABC’s A lways work—no power, no “one time only” reaction like intumescent coatings, always “on” B eautification– avoid unsightly mold, rust, broken concrete, flaking paint C ost Control from elimination of problems such as recoating requirements, damaged substrates from water, operational interuptions while fixing condensation problem, other….
