Metal Working
2
The term “Metal Working” generally refers to process of; joining, bending, casting, and cutting metal.
3
Joining Joining metal most commonly refers to fastening two or more pieces together. They can be joined by: –Mechanical Fasteners –Chemical Adhesives –Welding
4
Mechanical Fasteners Mechanical fasteners are: Any fastener that is held in place by force.
5
Chemical Adhesives The most common chemical adhesives in metal working are epoxies. They are a two- part adhesive that cures (dries) by chemical interaction between the two parts. These are some of the strongest adhesives available.
6
Welding To join (metals) by applying heat, sometimes with pressure and sometimes with an intermediate or filler metal having a high melting point.
7
Bending Depends on the type of metal, ie. Tubing, sheet metal, band iron, etc.
8
Casting Cast metal - To pour a molten metal into a mold.
9
Cutting Metal Metal can be cut many different ways, each type of metal has a “best” way.
