2 Objectives: ● For Nurses to be familiar with standing medication often started in ER that are controlled-released drugs. e.g. Klaricid and Klaricid OD ● To ensure safe and effective Drug encoding and administration.

3 Control-Released-Drugs These are drugs that are specially formulated either for extended effect of medication or for faster absorption.

4 DRUGS......... ● Klaricid OD – 500mg – (+) Extended Release – Longer Half-life – Given ONCE a day ● Klaricid – 500mg – Given twice a day ● Aspirin EC – 80mg – Enteric Coated – DO NOT chew/crush – Swallow whole – Absorbed in Intestine NOT in stomach – Causes gastric irritation – Given ONCE a day – “Aspilets EC” ● Aspirin – 80mg – Chewable

5 DRUGS......... ● Ciprobay XR – 500mg – 1gram – Extended Release – Longer Effect – Film Coated – Absorbed in Intestine NOT in stomach – DO NOT chew/crush – Swallow whole – Usually given ONCE a day ● Ciprobay – 500mg – Plain ● Tylenol ER – 650mg – Extended release – DO NOT chew/crush – Swallow whole – Given every 8 hours ● Tylenol – 500mg – Given every 4 hours

6 DRUGS......... ● Xanor XR – 500mcg – 1mg – Extended release – DO NOT chew/crush – Swallow whole ● Xanor – 250mcg – 500mcg – 1 mg ● Plendil ER – 2.5mg – 5mg – 10mg – Extended release – DO NOT chew/crush – Swallow whole

7 DRUGS......... ● Versant XR – 2.5mg – 5mg – Extended release – DO NOT chew/crush – Swallow whole ● Macrol OD – 300mg – Given ONCE a day ● Macrol – 150mg – TWICE a day

8 DRUGS......... ● Isoptin SR – 180mg – 240mg – Slow Release – Longer Effect – DO NOT chew/crush – Swallow whole ● Isoptin – 40mg – 80mg – Sugar coated ● Vastarel MR – 35mg – Modified Release – DO NOT chew/crush – Swallow whole – Longer Effect ● Vastarel – 20mg

9 DRUGS......... ● Amvasc – 5mg – Amlodipine Camsylate – Salt Form – Given to those with Angina ● Amvasc BE – 10mg – Amlodipine Besylate – Salt Form – PROPHYLAXIS for Angina ● Calcibloc OD – 30mg – DO NOT chew/crush – Swallow whole – Given ONCE a day ● Calcibloc – 5 mg – 10mg – Given TWICE to THRICE a day

10 DRUGS......... ● Micardis Plus – 40mg/12.5mg – 80mg/12.5mg – Telmisartan + Hydroclorthiazide – With diuretic ● Micardis – 40mg – 80mg ● Maalox Plus – With Dimethicone – For flatus

11 DRUGS......... ● Tegretol -200mg tab ● Tegretol SR -200mg film-coated -sustained- release ● Tegretol LA -400mg film-coated tablet -long-acting ● Ponstan caplet ● Ponstan SF – 500mg Capsule – Super Fast

12 DRUGS......... ● Buscopan tab – Hyoscine-N butylbromide ● Buscopan Plus – Hyoscine-N butylbromide 10mg plus Paracetamol 500mg ● Prevacid ● Prevacid FDT – Fast Disintegrating Tablet – Faster absorption – Faster effect

13 DRUGS......... ● Iberet – Just Ferrous ● Iberet Folic – With Folic Acid ● Cataflam – 50mg – 100mg ● Cataflam QS – 140mg – Cholestyramine Salt

14 DRUGS......... ● NEUROBION - multivitamins; B1, B6, B12 ● DOLO-NEUROBION - B1, B6, B12 plus paracetamol 500mg ● NEUROBION AMP - B1 100mg, B6 100mg, B12 1mg ● NEUROBION 5000AMP - B1 100mg, B6 100mg, B12 5mg

15 DRUGS....... ● XATRAL – 2.5 mg; usual frequency TID Film-coated ● XATRAL OD – 10mg; usual frequency once daily; swallow whole; DO NOT chew/ crush
