A Return to the Cold War The Soviet Nuclear Weapon Site is located in Zemaitija National Park. It was built under the Soviet regime in great secrecy in 1960. The nuclear missiles were targeted at the largest European cities. Now this old Soviet launch site opens its grim corridors and tunnels for guided tours.

Cruise Shipping Promotion
Klaipėda successfully “anchored” itself as a cruise destination, thanks to its extensive and active marketing campaign. This marketing campaign includes participation in and hosting of large international cruise related events, membership in cruise associations, enlarging of excursion choices, and offering personalized greetings for cruise passengers.

Expanding Sights (1) Waterfront Development Project SEAGATE
Waterfront project SEAGATE, located on the Dane River estuary. In the territory of the former ship repair yard near historical downtown Klaipeda, the waterfront is being reconstructed to preserve the maritime heritage, and to offer entertainment and leisure activities for visitors.

Waterfront project MEMEL CITY is located on the Dane River. The territory of the former ship repair yard will be reconstructed to offer outstanding business and residential facilities, and a large variety of entertainment ventures.

Developing Infrastructure
The Cruise Vessel Terminal is in the heart of the city. The Cruise Vessel Terminal covers an area of 1.2 ha and is located about 100 m from the city centre. Vessels with the length of 315 m and the draught of 8.5 m are able to moor at the terminal.

Reducing Port Charges Striving to further develop cruise shipping in the port, the regulations on Klaipeda Port Dues were revised and came into force in 2009. According to these amendments, port dues for cruise vessels larger than 50,000 GT (Gross Tonnage) are calculated on the rate of 50,000 GT, and a 20 % discount on port dues are granted from the second call of each year.

Improving Services A new Passenger and Cargo Terminal is under construction in the central part of the city. It will be completed in 2012. The new terminal will expand to accommodate all cruise vessels calling at the port and will guarantee the highest quality of services for passengers.
