3 1937-Industrial production and unemployment improved Pressured by Congress to scale back New Deal programs o Economic problems still occurring o Resulted in…  decrease in industrial production  unemployment rising from 7 to 11 million from 1937 to 1938

4 Conservatives thought FDR’s policies made government too large and powerful government stifled free enterprise and individual initiative Liberals argued FDR didn’t socialize economy enough refused to eliminate social and economic inequalities

5 Supporters thought… FDR struck balance between two extremes o unregulated capitalism o overregulated socialism Helped country to recover from economic difficulties
