1 Teachers oriented 6.COMBUSTION AND FLAME
TODAY’S TOPIC DIFFERENT ZONES OF CANDLE FLAME

2 DIFFERENT ZONES OF CANDLE FLAME A FLAME CONSIST OF THREE ZONES
DIFFERENT ZONES OF CANDLE FLAME A FLAME CONSIST OF THREE ZONES. THESE ARE : : INNERMOST ZONE : MIDDLE ZONE : OUTER ZONE

3 THE INNERMOST ZONE OF CANDLE FLAME THE INNERMOST ZONE OF FLAME IS DARK OR BLACK IN COLOUR, THE INNERMOST ZONE OF FLAME CONSIST OF HOT UNBURNT VAPOURS OF COMBUSTIBLE MATERIAL (SAY WAX VAPOURS)

4 THE MIDDLE ZONE OF CANDLE FLAME THE MIDDLE ZONE OF A CANDLE FLAME IS YELLOW IN COLOUR. IT BRIGHT AND LUMINOUS MEANS LIGHT GIVING THE FUEL VAPOURS BURN PARTIALLY IN THE MIDDLE ZONE BECAUSE THERE IS NOT ENOUGH AIR FOR BURNING IN THIS ZONE.

5 THE OUTER ZONE OF A CANDLE FLAME THE OUTER ZONE OF A FLAME IS BLUE IN COLOUR. IT IS NON-LUMINOUS ZONE (MEANS WHICH DOES NOT PRODUCE MUCH LIGHT). IN THIS ZONE COMPLETE COMBUSTION OF A FUEL TAKES PLACE BECAUSE THERE IS PLENTY OF AIR ARROUND IT. AND ALSO IT IS THE HOTTEST ZONE IN THE CANDLE FLAME.

7 ACTIVITIES RELATED TO THIS TOPIC

8 ACTIVITY TO SHOW THAT THE INNERMOST ZONE OF A CANDLE FLAME CONSIST OF UNBURN WAX VAPOURS

9 ACTIVITY TO SHOW THAT THE MIDDLE ZONE OF CANDLE FLAME CONSIST OF UNBURNT CARBON PARTICLES

10 ACTIVITY TO SHOW THAT THE OUTERMOST ZONE NON-LUMINOUS ZONE OF A FLAME IS THE HOTTEST

11 QUESTIONS FOR ABOVE AVERAGE STUDENTS 1 name the various zones of candle flame and put them in increasing order according their temperature? 2 why does in innermost zone of flame consist of hot and unburn vapours of combustible material?

12 Ans 1 the three zones of candle flame are innermost zone, middle zone, and outer zone. According to increasing Order innermost zone< middle zone< outer zone. Ans2 The innermost zone consist of hot, unburnt vapours of combustible material because there is very less air.

13 Questions for average students 1 Define ignition temperature
Questions for average students 1 Define ignition temperature ? 2 In which zone of a candle flame complete combustion of fuels is take place to make light?

14 Ans1 The lowest temperature at which the substance catches fire and starts burning it is called its ignition temperature. Ans2 In the outer zone complete combustion of fuels takes place.

15 Question for below average students 1 Name 3 combustible/non-combustible objects? 2 Which is the coldest zone of candle flame?

16 Ans1 combustible materials : wood, paper, plastic
Ans1 combustible materials : wood, paper, plastic. Non-combustible material : iron, steel, glass. ans2 The coldest zone of candle flame is innermost zone.
