HP 3PAR StoreServ is eliminating boundaries
Polymorphic Simplicity ONE Architecture ONE Operating System ONE Interface ONE Feature Set When Scale Matters Up to 3.2 PB When Performance Matters Up to 900K 0.7ms latency 10800 When Value Matters Starting at $25K 10400 7450 All Flash Array All Flash Starter Kit 7400 Our approach is unique because in ONE architecture we can deliver the right solution. When value matters, when performance matters and when scale matters – This includes the 7000 models (two o them: a 7200 and a 7400) where pricing starts at $25K (US list), the 7450 for accelerated application performance taking advantage of an all flash solution, and the models (10400 and 10800) that scale to 3.2PB’s. One architecture means one OS that’s common across these platforms, one UI and Command Line so managing one model is the same as managing another and one common feature set so that the same rich set of data services is available regardless of model. 7200

Storage for the datacenter of the future
15 April 2017 Storage for the datacenter of the future HP 3PAR StoreServ delivers TODAY Building on Flash innovations to deliver best in class Flash solutions All-Flash starting at $35K with new cMLC drives Flash Optimized Hybrid Solutions Expanding Hypervisor integration for easier management VMware VVOLS Ready Peer Persistence for Hyper-V and Windows Extending security to meet compliance requirements FIPS Level 2 Certification High End Entry Primary Storage 1 Block | Object | File Flash Optimized Storage Our 3PAR announcement in August hits on a few different topics. First and foremost: We are continuing to execute on our strategy to bring Flash to the mainstream. We made a lot of headlines at HP Discover in June by bringing the cost of all-flash down to $2/GB. Now, we are extending this price advantage by slashing the entry cost of All-flash down to $35K. But… Bringing flash to the mainstream is not only about all-flash solutions. We are building on our flash innovations and extending them to our flash optimized hybrid arrays. By doing this, we are making it much easier for our customers to deploy a little flash for performance hungry apps without requiring forklift upgrades. We are also expanding 3PAR’s Hypervisor integration. 3PAR will be VMware VVOls ready And we are also widening the net for Peer Persistence by adding additional support for Hyper-V and Windows. Peer Persistence now covers over 90% of the hypervisor market…. Meaning you have lots more opportunities to pitch a complete High Availability solution Finally, we want to be sure to make folks aware that 3PAR recently received FIPS Level 2 certification at the system level to address compliance requirements HP Confidential

Solid State is game changer in storage market
New lower priced SSDs coming for all 3PAR StoreServ! 1.92TB cMLC 480GB cMLC 7450 All-Flash Available Sept 29th 7000 10000 Future 1.920 1.200 1.200 900 920 600 600 vs. 400 200 Spinning Disk (GB) SSD (GB) 50 2010 Spinning Disk 12x more data 2011 4x increase in SSD sizing 2012 2x increase in SSD size x increase in SSD size x increase in SSD size Spinning drives increase 2x while SSD increase 38x in the same 5 years Solid state drives are a game changer in the storage market. At this point… the performance benefits are common knowledge…. But what might not be common knowledge is that SSDs have surpassed high speed spinning disk in capacity density. In the past 5 years, SSDs have increased in capacity by a magnitude of 38x while high speed spinning disks have only doubled And HP has been helping to drive this transition by working very closely with our SSD suppliers. For example, we are the only major storage vendor to offer a 1.92 TB drive. Our patented Adaptive Sparing technology, which is unique to HP, let’s us work with the SSD vendors to take stock 1.6 TB drives and extend them to 1.92 based on the technology. That’s an increase in usable capacity per drive of up to 20%. In June we announced this drive for the All-flash 7450 system and we are now extending this across the entire 3PAR Portfolio. For customers that are interested in deploying Flash in smaller increments, we are also introducing a 480 cMLC Drive across the entire portfolio.

Flash for the Mainstream Continued
15 April 2017 Flash for the Mainstream Continued The beat goes on… All-flash now starting at $35K*! JUNE 2014 The end of traditional high-end auto-tiered arrays and niche flash startups Under $2 per GB Usable ~$100K ASP NOW Brought the Entry All-Flash 50% below competition $35K All-flash starting price At HP Discover in June, we made a pretty bold statement by announcing the end of high-end auto-tiered arrays. For the first time, we delivered All-flash at $2/Gb usable capacity… the same cost as high speed spinning disk. We did this through HP’s hardware accelerated compaction technologies, including new Data deduplication for the 7450 as well as the 1.92 cMLC drive I just mentioned. But…. the upfront cost was still fairly significant with average ASPs of over $100K Now, we are taking the next step to bring Flash to the mainstream by slashing the entry cost. Customer can now step into an all-flash array with a starting pricing point of just $35K. This is 50% below our major competitors. You can now talk all-flash to new parts of the marketplace. This will significantly expand the market, because if customers can get flash at the same price as a typical midrange array with more performance, and less power, and using less space, why wouldn’t they do it?” *US street price assuming a 45% standard discount HP Confidential

New: All-Flash Starter Kit at $35K
New Product Introduction New: All-Flash Starter Kit at $35K Available September 29th Affordable: Starting price point of $35K is half the competition¹ Entry price point without limiting your ability to grow or deploy advanced data services Accelerated: Over 75K IOPS at sub ms response time Massively parallelized architecture, flash-optimized cache algorithms and QoS Efficient: 4:1 Compaction technologies for 7TB Usable² (3.5TB Raw) Multi-layered and fine-grained virtualization with hardware-accelerated data compaction Future-proof: Linear performance and capacity scalability Easily expand hardware for a total of 690GB usable capacity and 250K IOPs So let’s dig into more details on how we are transforming the entry point of all-flash at $35K We created an All-Flash starter kit based on the 3PAR StoreServ 7200 model. We sized and priced this kit to sell. The sizing was done to go after the All-flash sweet spot. Gartner Group recently reported that 25% of all-flash systems were shipped with less than 10TB capacity with ASPs ranging from 25-75K The 3PAR Starter Kit contains A 7200 with 8 x 480 cMLC drives for a total capacity of 3.5TB RAW or 7TB usable 3PAR Base OS which now includes Thin Dedupe for the entire portfolio Reporting Suite and Virtual Copy – both very popular suites with high attach rates And when you add a3 YR Proactive Care 24 support… the total APS is 35K (which assumes only a 45%) So what do customers get? Affordability – you no longer need over a $100K to step into an all-flash solution. And the 35K street price is half the competition You can accelerate your applications with over 75K IOPs at sub ms reponse times Again… the capacity is sized appropriately for the current all-flash market And you have the flexibility and agility to scale the solution as customer requirement grow and evolve over time In terms of a target market…. You should be looking for small OLTP/Database environments or VDI deployments with up to 500 users. Tyical these are small environments where customers may want to run a POC for an all-flash solution ¹Based on comparison of US list prices for the HP 3PAR StoreServ 7200 All-Flash Starter Kit and EMC XtremIO with 5TB of raw capacity and Pure Storage FA-405 entry-level configuration with 2.75TB raw capacity. ²Requires Thin Deduplication available in 3PAR OS MU1 (October); 5.25TB Usable available today based on 2:1 compaction HP Restricted

Start Using Flash with Adaptive Flash Cache (AFC)
Don’t just sit and spin Start Using Flash with Adaptive Flash Cache (AFC) Legacy Hybrids Flash for Everyone Allows SSDs to act as an extension of system cache and can as much as double read rates and reduce latency up to 70% Unpredictable performance with tiering Response time around 5ms Inefficient use of TBs with pools Rigid hardware-defined provisioning and QoS Adaptive Flash Cache Delivers assured QoS for all applications and tenants without physically partitioning resources Priority Optimization Nondisruptive, autonomic-tiered storage to provide the right QoS to the right data at the right time Adaptive Optimization Hybrid Flash Solution just (4) SSDS 3PAR 7200 (12) 1TB Nearline & (4) 480GB SSDs 3PAR OS (including Adaptive Flash Cache SSDs suitable for AFC eMLC: 480GB and 920 cMLC: 1.92TB 480 cMLC is NOT suitable for AFC and is currently being investigated As I mentioned, bringing flash to the mainstream isn’t just about all-flash solutions We are also making it much easier to deploy a little flash in each array. Up until now, it wasn’t always cost effective to deploy flash in hybrid arrays. No thin deduplication and inefficient storage pools created lots of wasted capacity. And you didn’t reap all the promised performance benefits with response times around 5 ms. This is all changing…. First, we are adding new compaction technologies including Inline Thin deduplication and Thin Clones software for the entire 3PAR portfolio. Previously, these were only available for the all-flash When these capabilities get added to the benefits of existing thin provisioning with zero-block deduplication, total useable capacity requirements for SSDs are reduced by more than 75%. It has never been more affordable to add a little flash to any hybrid array We are also introducing Adaptive Flash Cache for all hybrid arrays. I’ll touch on this more in a couple of slides, but the two most important things to note is that it is included in the 3Par OS and it leverages SSDs to extend cache for significant accelerated performance. The message you should be bringing to your customers is don’t just sit and spin! There has never been a better time to dip your toes into the flash pool and try a little…. All you need to take advantage of flash is just 4 SSDs. With thin deduplication, we can reduce your usable capacity requirements by 75% and you also get to reap the benefits of Adaptive Flash Cache for accelerated performance One note on Adaptive Flash Cache – at this point the 480 cMLC is not suitable for Adaptive Flash Cache, but all other SSDs are supported. The 480 cMLC is currently under investigation.

Effortless transition to Flash
15 April 2017 Effortless transition to Flash No need to rip and replace existing environment Any existing 3PAR system with SSDs can use Adaptive Flash Cache to improve performance Adaptive Flash Cache is enabled as part of the 3PAR OS Lower latency Higher IOPS And now for the best part…… it’s enabled through the 3Par OS. This means that if your customers are running a 3PAR system then they will get Adaptvie Flash Cache at no additional cost. The reason why we did this is again we want to make it as easy as possible for customers to start deploying flash. This means that any existing 3Par system with SSDs can use Adaptive Flash Cache to get a performance boost. HP Confidential

New: HP 3PAR Express Writes improve performance
15 April 2017 New: HP 3PAR Express Writes improve performance Available September 29th for Transparent FC protocol optimizations Express Writes is enabled by default and part of the 3PAR OS -20% Latency + 30% IOPS Benefits extend to both spinning drives and flash-based media HP 3PAR Express Writes is another example of the excellent investment protection you can provide your customers. We have also included this feature in the 3Par OS…. So again if you are running a 3PAR system you can take advantage of this feature at no additional cost Basically ….. 3PAR Express Writes is a code path optimization for improved performance. We are changing the way we write to data…. Which results in a 20% drop in latency and a 30% increase in IOPs. And the best part is these performance benefits extend to both spinning and flash-based media. HP Confidential

HP 3PAR StoreServ: reference platform for VMware vVOLs¹
Hypervisor aware storage on HP 3PAR StoreServ Distinguish between individual VMs Virtual Volumes Granular, Policy Based VM Storage 3PAR StoreServ is the first vendor to provide space reclamation via the zero detect engine in the 3PAR ASIC with vVols on a per-VM basis 3PAR Priority Optimization provides array-based QoS guarantees at the application and/or VM level for most efficient and dynamic/real-time control of VMs performance. 3PAR Snapshot enables thousands of recovery points on a per VM basis For awhile now, HP Storage has been working with VMware as a design partner to define and develop a VM-granular storage architecture to potentially replace vSphere’s VMFS/datastore model. This new model is called VMware Virtual Volumes (vVols). Virtual Volumes introduces a 1:1 mapping of VMs to storage volumes—in other words, each VM will be associated with its own, unique storage volume. With vVols the storage system could now have the ability to operate at the same level of granularity as vSphere, which means that vSphere can better leverage, and take advantage of, the native strengths and capabilities of modern, intelligent storage arrays, like HP 3PAR. What’s important to note is that Vmware has chose 3PAR as the reference platform for vVOLs development. HP and Vmware are working closely to bring this technology to market. We expect vVOLs to be available in early 2015, and current systems running HP 3PAR OS will be VVOls ready. ¹HP 3PAR StoreServ will be vVols ready with a new release of HP 3PAR OS available before the end of the year.

Free Capacity for existing 3PAR Customers
15 April 2017 Dynamic Optimization Free Capacity for existing 3PAR Customers Fat-to-Thin Fat-to-Dedupe Transition to Flash without “rip and replacing” existing environment Thin-to-Fat Thin-to-Dedupe New: Fat-to-Dedupe New: Thin-to-Dedupe New: Thin-to- Dedupe Fat Fast Dedupe HDD SSD Thin Fast Dedupe HDD SSD Save capacity and accelerate performance by Migrating Fat volumes from an HDD tier to an SSD tier Save capacity and accelerate performance by migrating Thin volumes from an HDD tier to an SSD tier Reduce the acquisition and operational cost of data center storage If you have not already noticed, you are going to start to see a common theme of how we are helping customers transition to flash without rip and replacing their existing environment. One example is an enhancement to 3PAR Dynamic Optimization For some time we have allowed customers to transition from Fat-to-thin and thin-to-fat volumes on the fly. This allows customers to convert back and forth from a fully provisioned volume and a thin-provisioned volume inline and without disruption to production workloads With Thin Deduplication available on all models, customers now have the flexibility to transition to Fat to Dedupe or Thin-to-Dedupe volumes on the fly. This enables a couple of things: First - it saves space and frees up a significant amount of capacity for existing customers Secondly – it allows customer’s to easily transition to Flash to accelerate their performance. No fork lift required… HP Confidential
