Resourcefulness Versus Wastefulness Finding practical uses for that which others would overlook or discard. Wastefulness The primary concept behind resourcefulness is: using that which others naturally overlook. When you neglect to consider resources for other purposes, wastefulness abounds.
2
Everything around us is a resource for people to test our ability to learn new ideas and skills, and to build character in us. For instance: God made the tree and left it to man. How resourceful was man?
3
Resourcefulness We took the tree and peeled off the bark,
We used the twigs for fire and made light in the dark. We then made our homes from the tree that was peeled, And then used the pitch to make sure they were sealed. We then crushed the bark and made blankets for the cold, We used what we needed and the rest, they were sold. We then used the money to buy us a horse, And now we have us another resource.
4
Look for ideas in others. Look for skills in others.
The world is full of opportunities! A resourceful person recognizes the value of ideas, skills, and supplies that others often overlooked. Look for ideas in others. Look for skills in others. Use all the supplies that everyone has. Sometimes we need to realize that if we don’t use everyone, then someone will be wasted. The trick is to be resourceful enough to find something in someone that someone else overlooked.
5
Resourcefulness: finding wisdom, even in mistakes.
An old, successful business leader was asked one day by his protégé for the secret of success. The old man said, “I can give it to you in two words: Right Decisions!” “But how does someone go about making right decisions?” asked the young man. “Experience!” came the reply. “But how does one gain experience?” “Wrong Decisions!” replied the man.

Example: Miss Alabama in the 1994 Miss Universe contest, was asked
Some people in the work place may not do well in one place, but they will excel in others. They might never get the chance if someone is not resourceful enough to look beyond the obvious. Example: Miss Alabama in the 1994 Miss Universe contest, was asked “If you could live forever, would you and why?” She replied, “I would not live forever, because we should not live forever, because if we were supposed to live forever, then we would live forever, but we can not live forever, which is why I would not live forever.” She’s beautiful, and boy can she sing. But do you want her answering your phones? A resourceful person will recognize peoples values and bring them to light so people can see them.
7
No matter the situation, resourceful people will see value in objects beyond their original purpose and utilize them to meet their needs. Henry Ford used the crates that the carburetors came in to build the floors of his cars. This is resourcefulness.
8
Multiply your resources by reusing rather than disposing; repairing rather than destroying; and donating rather than discarding supplies and goods. If you knew that you were dying, would you not donate an organ to keep someone else alive?
9
One must “think positive” to be resourceful
Mayor Marion Barry, of Washington D.C. was not willing to let his state go to waste, and decided to be positive. He stated: “Outside of the killings, Washington has one of the lowest crime rates in the country.” Look at the people that are around you, and be resourceful on how to make them the best that they can be. Take this to work with you!

Group Jane is in trouble. She has no place to live because of her failure to pay her bills. She has two children and no husband. Both of her children are by different men. It’s night and she is out front of a gas station where you are getting gas. You know that the children need a place but you are worried about what the mother might do.

Try to be real resourceful in your planning.
Can you find a use for her? Most would ignore the problem and hope it went away. You know that you must do something, but don’t know if you want to get involved. But against your better judgment, you try to come up with a plan. What would it be? How would you help Jane and her children without enabling her? Try to be real resourceful in your planning.
