11 Goal 1. Establish Salem Ave. as the Region’s Peace Corridor OBJECTIVESSTRATEGIES A. Create an organizational structure and a governing body to facilitate implementation and ensure accountability  Establish an executive council modeled on the Downtown Dayton Partnership organization B. Establish the Communities of Peace TM garden and farmers market development as a catalyst for future growth  Gain support for the Communities of Peace TM garden and farmers market development from neighborhood residents and city and institutional leaders  Secure an appropriate site for the Communities of Peace garden and farmers market development  Acquire financial support to develop and operate the Communities of Peace garden and farmers market C. Improve both perceptions and realities regarding area safety and security along the Peace Corridor (Salem Avenue)  Explore and implement initiatives such as Weed and Seed and Community Policing  Increase engagement of residents and businesses in collaborative efforts with the Dayton Police Department  Recharge Neighborhood Watch groups and programs  Partner with the city to increase demolition and code enforcement to reduce vacant and abandoned buildings D. Develop and implement a sustainable beautification plan that improves the Corridor’s aesthetic appeal and unifies the Salem Avenue streetscape  Engage civic groups, youth organizations and other local stakeholders to develop a beautification plan  Use talents of local artisans to enhance beautification strategy  Partner with neighboring communities and corridors on integrated regional beautification strategies  Enhance green space along the corridor and within neighborhoods
