Location of high-tech industry is important to its success, access to raw materials is unimportant. Locating to an area, such as the M4, gives the company access to a motorway system and important communication infrastructure with London, Europe and the rest of the world. With a concentration of industry companies may share knowledge and information and have access to a skilled workforce

Inputs and outputs Cambridge Science Park The M4 corridor stretches from Heathrow airport in the east to Bath and Bristol in the west. The corridor is home to companies such as Hewlett Packard and Sony who are involved in research and development (quaternary industry) and have links with universities who provide well-qualified graduates. Few raw materials are used and therefore transport costs are low, making the industries 'footloose'.
