2 Purpose of the Proposed Project The purposes of the proposed action are to: 1.Provide a new means of access from Bodie Island to Hatteras Island  Needs Addressed: The existing bridge is reaching the end of its service life

3 Purpose of the Proposed Project The purposes of the proposed action are to: 2.Provide a replacement crossing that takes into account natural Oregon Inlet channel migration  Needs Addressed: Reduce future dredging needs

4 Purpose of Proposed Project The purposes of the proposed action are to: 3.Provide a replacement crossing that will not be endangered by shoreline movement and will connect to future shifts of NC 12  Needs Addressed: The southern terminus of the existing bridge is north of portions of NC 12 threatened by shoreline erosion and overwash
