13  Elie and his father ride a train to their new camp in Buchenwald. People assume Elie’s father is dead because he is not moving. The people on the train fight for bread. Night, Chapter 7

14  Elie’s father says, “I can’t go on…this is the end…I’m going to die here.” Elie “misplaces” his father and has a revelation. Elie’s father has dysentery (frequent vomiting of blood, diarrhea, etc.) Night, Chapter 8

17 1.When Elie is in the train wagon and a piece of bread is dropped, he decides not to move. Why? Would you have done the same thing? Why or why not? 2.On pg. 96, Mier has a fight with someone over bread. Who is it that he fights with? If Mier fights with this person, what does that say about this character or the situation that he is in? 3.On pg. 101, Elie wishes that he wouldn’t find his father. Re- read this part and ask yourself, would you have thought the same thing? Why or why not? 4.At the end of Chapter 8, Elie claims that he is “free at last.” What does he mean by this? Do you agree with his thinking? Why or why not? Questions
