Welcome to “Voice Tools: Increasing Interaction Online” Before we begin: 1. You will need a headset or speakers to hear other participants. 2. Please check your volume by clicking on the Tools menu (above), then Audio, and then Audio Set Up Wizard. Follow the wizard to configure your audio settings. 3. To speak to the group, click the microphone button in the bottom left corner of the screen. When you have finished speaking, click this button again to release the microphone. 4. At any time you can send a text message to the whole group or to individual participants. Use the field in the lower left corner within the Direct Messaging area. Please note: Moderators will be able to view all posts.

Voice as a Facilitation Tool in OPD Wanted to: Connect with participants in more familiar way Get away from interacting purely through text Take advantage of freely-available communication tools Summarize session discussions Learn how to use different voice tools Tools I used: Audacity (audio recording program) iSight camera/iMovie (video programs for Mac)

Observations Some participants preferred audio summaries, others preferred video summaries Summaries were a topic of conversation in discussion board; brought group together Many participants wanted to learn more about how to integrate voice tools into facilitation Allowed me to frame issues in my own words, which personalized my facilitation
