JINR The LHC Transverse Damping System The LHC Transverse Damping System CERN – Russia - JINR CMS LHCb LHC Damper ATLAS ALICE Transverse Damping System Transverse Damping System is a feedback with a real-time digital signal processing for: damping of transverse injection oscillations, feedback curing transverse coupled bunch instabilities, excitation of transverse oscillations for beam measurements and other applications. The Damper is in the list of the systems that must operate already for first beam injection. Therefore the schedule of construction and installation of the Damper in the machine must be completed in 2006 and testing in the accelerator will start in November 2006. JINR’s obligations: 20 deflectors (kickers) & 20 twin-amplifiers.

18 kicker tanks (9 modules) assembled waiting for bake-out by AT-VAC in hall 113 (March 22, 2006 ) The LHC Damper: kickers JINR CERN team between finished modules wishing to congratulate their JINR colleagues for their achievement After three weeks of hard work by the JINR team on visit at CERN 18 kicker tanks (9 modules) are finally finished
6
LHC Damper: future plans During 2006 the following items must be completed: series production of 15 wideband twin power amplifiers and their testing at the specialized test stands of LPP (JINR) and AB/RF (CERN) assembly of two spare kicker tanks vacuum bake-out of 20 kickers/deflectors at CERN by AT/VAC (April 2006) transportation and installation of 4 units (=8 modules) in the LHC tunnel in July 2006 as well as hardware commissioning in November 2006. Participation in beam commissioning in 2007 and in future electronics design is being discussed. JINR
