2 nd – 6 th Rockstars November 18-26 Weekly Reminders 4th Grade Literacy – In Literacy class students will continue to learn comprehension skills and strategies to become better readers. This week students will be able to differentiate between a statement of fact or opinion. Students will also work with weekly vocabulary words, as well as, grade level sight words. 5th Grade Literacy - In Literacy class students will build upon their prior knowledge of comprehension skills and strategies to become better readers. This week students will be able to differentiate between a statement of fact or opinion. Students will also be able to make inferences or predictions based on their prior knowledge. Tuesday, November 19 th – Have all items for your homeroom basket turned in Monday, November 25 th – Winter Extravaganza (4:00-8:00) November 27 th, 28 th, & 29 th – Thanksgiving Break Girl Scouts volunteers are needed in your school. For more information, or to start a troop contact: Jenni Johnson at 270-495-4093 or jajohnson@gskentuckiana.org 2nd Grade Math – My 2nd Graders will be using bar models to solve real world addition and subtraction word problems. 3rd Grade Math - My 3rd graders will be learning multiplication facts of 6, 7, 8, and 9 and dividing to find the number of items in each group. Thank you for working with your child on memorizing the multiplication facts. 2nd Grade Social Studies - The 2nd Grade class will be studying about the Westward Movement. 3rd Grade Social Studies - My 3rd graders will continue their study of the thirteen colonies. 4th Grade Social Studies - My two 4th grade classes will be studying Kentucky's Explorers and Settlers as well as the French and Indian War. 2 nd Grade Literacy I can develop oral vocabulary. I can identify the author’s purpose for writing a selection. I can find and use text features in a selection. I can recognize a contraction as a short way of writing two words at once. 3 rd Grade Literacy I can develop oral vocabulary. I can identify antonyms. I can recognize the author’s purpose for writing a selection. I can make valid predictions based upon what has already occurred in the story. I can set a purpose for reading. 2nd Grade Science I can observe how light helps people see. I can explain what happens when light shines on objects. 3rd Grade Science I can explain how a natural disaster affects living things in an environment. I can list ways nature repairs itself after disasters. I can explain how humans affect living things.

Bowen Science- all science classes are actively working on science fair projects. Please know they are due Monday, Dec. 2nd. Details are on my teacher website. Language - We are working on informational writing now and learning how to take notes. Most classes will have a parent interview to conduct so they learn how to ask questions of adults and take notes over the replies given. 4th Grade Science - Early this week in science we will have a weather quiz that will assess reading a weather map, clouds and weather terms. Later in the week we will discuss weathering and erosion. 3rd/4th Grade Math - We are continuing to practice division (up to 3 digit numbers divided by 1-digit numbers). We will also use models to solve real world multiplication and division problems. We will prepare for an assessment later in the week. Please practice division at home and continue to work on your multiplication facts :) Writer's Workshop 5th grade will continue this week with Language Mechanics and how to effectively revise and edit a writing piece. 6th grade will also continue Language Mechanics but they will also begin a three week study in Greek and Latin and how words originated. All writing classes will be writing their favorite actor, singer, or author this week in hopes of a classroom visit or at least an autographed picture. Daily Five In connection with our Language classes, reading classes will be focusing on Greek/Latin studies for the next three weeks. We will be looking at inference, graphic sources, and study skills while diving into the Greek and Latin base words. Linder 5th grade Social Studies I can describe important sites in Colonial Williamsburg. I can describe life in Colonial Williamsburg. I can create a postcard that describes one aspect of daily life in Williamsburg. 6th Social Studies I can use the five themes of geography to describe a country in Europe or South America. I can use Wiki and Wordle to showcase my country research project. Math I can multiply with whole numbers and proper fractions. I can multiply proper fractions. I can solve world problems using multiplication of proper fractions.. This week we will begin our adventure with units and unit rates. We will explore some economic skills such as purchasing items and finding the best deal. This is a great opportunity for you to discuss real life situations with your child. Enjoy their questions.
