3. -Shiny scissors -Jeannette had her own room -Jeannette's room was orderly -The hospital was clean and quiet -The hospital nurses and doctors were calm and polite -Jeannette had T.V. for the first time -Jeannette was 'waited on' "I would have been happy staying in that hospital forever."(Walls 12)

4. The experience in the hospital affected her decision to try to make her life more orderly, like when she lived in Welch and strove to organize her home in the same way the hospital was organized.

5. Fire The fire represents the turbulence and volatility of her childhood. She faces her fear of fire in the same way that she eventually accepts and overcomes the nature of her youth.

6. Poverty was very similar, in Jeannette's childhood, to fire in that fire and poverty were dangerous yet very exciting and filled with adventure. The dangers including the usual deprivation of food, careless parenting on behalf of Rose Mary and Rex Walls, and their nomadic lifestyle.
