MAC and sustainability In 2008, was organised Sustainability week, involving many teachers-led out-of- class initiatives. In 2009, sustainability enters MAC mission statement and is one of its 7 values MAC mission statement Today, many teachers are well aware of environmental issues. 2008 Then called “sustainability club”, managed by Science teachers. Who is Team Green A group of MAC students Aim: to campaign for sustainability in the college and learn about sustainability issues. The college direction supports Team Green in principle. First Year achievements: Recycling bins set up and campaign, Paper 4 Trees first year (10 trees won), Purchase of a worm farm

2009 New Team: Carol Bradley, Physical Education and health teacher, and me, well supported by Simon. New venue : library New name: MAC Team Green New blog http://macteamgreen.wordpress.comhttp://macteamgreen.wordpress.com First appearance in the College Magazine Regeneration workshop 15 th June, Jinty McTavish and Te Rawhitiroa Bosch taught us how to share ideas, draw visions of the future and organise our projects

2009 Actions Earth Hour Campaign Our first time in assembly: - showing the official video - introducing Team Green College-wide event (Year 7 to 10) to plant 150 trees with the help of community members, followed by a 350 shape on the college ground. Design competition To Raise recycling awareness, we create a competition to design a paper recycling bin poster Tree planting on 350 day 350 event : Friday 23rd October

2010 Actions Advertised Earth Hour again Launched MAC Team Green Snippets A weekly appearance in the newsletter with eco-facts related to the college. Wanaka Change Makers starts in May Paper recycling set up, launched school-wide in whanau with: a poster to paste on the paper bin a poster to explain how to use it a transport survey a packed lunch survey World Enviro Day 8 th June 26 trees won

2011 Changes New Regeneration workshopRegeneration Many ideas to recycle food waste: We study different composting systems… We promote Unpackit campaign who visits the college on the 28 th MarchUnpackit We manage to do an Earth Hour in the college only on the 27 th May (it was on the 26 th March) We choose the trees we have won (19) Meeting with Jenni, regional enviro-school coordinator Energy campaign 1 hour granted per fortnight
