What about historic high and low swine inventory numbers All time highs for both the U.S. and MO occurred in 1944. U.S. had 83.4 M compared to 60.0 M (2004) Missouri had 5.405 M compared to 2.900 M (2004) Record low numbers for MO occurred in 1935 (2.4 M)

What about highs and lows for other Missouri livestock? Beef cow high of 2.759 M (1975) compared to the present inventory of 2.125 M (2004) Milk cow high of 1.115 M (1945) compared to the present inventory of 125,000 (2004) Sheep high of 1.780 M (1943) compared to 60,000 (2004)

Where are most of the hogs raised in Missouri? Ten to twenty years ago the best answer would have been in North Missouri (especially along the MO and Mississippi Rivers) and feeder pigs in Southern MO. Today the leading regions of the state include: Northwest, North Central, Northeast and West Central. A few of counties in SW MO also have significant hog numbers (Barton, Jasper and McDonald).
