3 Seminar The European Manuscript & Hand Press Book Heritage The role of the Consortium of European Research Libraries (CERL), Dubrovnik 31 May 2007 3 University Library Rijeka rare book collections 1.1948 – complete material and the catalog (today digitized on the web - http://www.svkri.hr//katalog/) of the former Biblioteca civica (37.000 units) 2.1949-1960 – material from the libraries in Rijeka which were abandoned from their owners, or closed - (another 40.000 units)  base for the Historical Collection

6 Seminar The European Manuscript & Hand Press Book Heritage The role of the Consortium of European Research Libraries (CERL), Dubrovnik 31 May 2007 6 Project Objectives Building the Historical Collection of the Library, based on the modern library practice Making the Collection available for the physical and virtual use Introducing digitization and work with digital material as the part of the regular activity of the Library  establishing of the “hybrid” library with the balance of the traditional and electronic material Enlarge the librarianship knowledge with management skills, fund raising skills, public relations skills, quality control

Title pages and ex libris digitized Short description of the physical item linked with the correspondent digital material available on the web The library procedures with both analog and digital material fully defined The system made ready for upgrading to full records in the integrated library software, and for building the digital collection(s)
