Causes Abuse and neglect occur most often in families who are under pressure and lack support. Occurs in families which some of these things happen: Lack of education Serious marital problems Frequent changes of addresses Violence between family members Lack of support from the extended family Loneliness and social isolation Unemployment Inadequate housing

Effects Eating disorders Drug use Risky sexual decision making Self-harm Troubled sleeping Discomfort with physical touch Depression

I.Every year more than 3 million reports of child abuse are made in the United States involving more than 6 million children. II.The United States has one of the worst records among industrialized nations – losing on average between four and seven children every day to child abuse and neglect. III.A report of a child abuse is made every ten seconds IV.Yearly, referrals to state child protective services involve 6.3 million children, and around 3 million of those children are subject to an investigated report. V.In 2012, state agencies found an estimated 686,000 victims of child maltreatment
