2 How Does Sonnet Work? l Meshes only metal of circuit. l Calculates voltage generated by current from each subsection. l Adjusts current on all subsections for zero total voltage on all conductor.

3 First Circuit l Set Units. l Specify box size. l Specify cell size. l Specify substrate. l Draw circuit. l Add ports. l Save file.

38 Conclusion l Sonnet is appropriate for 3-D planar circuits. l Sonnet is based on the 2-D FFT and is thus very robust and accurate compared to numerical integration techniques. l Sonnet can interface with Agilent, Ansoft, Mentor, Cadence, and many other tools.
